I was pleased to see so many Colorado breweries win medals this year. Colorado took in 22 medals and one Brewery of the Year award (Blue Moon). My local brewery, Odell's, took home 3 medals including a Gold in the American-style IPA category. Cheers to Odell!

On a quick glance, I'm proud to see that my local brewpub walked off with a gold for their stout!

I heard that all of the judging was done blind - so everything was fair game.

Since I work for a website devoted to the great microbreweries and brewpubs of the Midwest, I was paying special attention to the winners from this area.

It was great to see Three Floyds take home a gold (Imperial or Double Red Ale) and a bronze (Imperial or Double India Pale Ale). Michigan dominated the English-Style Mild Ale category. Dragonmead took the gold and Redwood Brewing took the bronze.

There were some other Midwestern winners but I was happiest to see a win for our friend from the small brewpub in Mount Horeb Wisconsin. Mark Duchow of The Grumpy Troll took the gold in the Baltic-Style Porter category. He is a great Brewmaster and a great guy. To see a write-up about The Grumpy Troll and reviews of some of their regular beers, check out our webpage, MidwestMicroBrews.

Okay, enough shameless self-promotion.

Cheers!
Michael
