The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

I love drinking beer. I think this fact at this point is very well-known. There are a few things though that make me enjoy that cold one a little more. Whether I am sitting at the bar or imbibing a few in the comfort of my apartment, the soundtrack of my drinking experience is very important to me. I know that some people listen to certain music while cleaning or studying or other things to motivate them. It is just like that for me, but with drinking. There are also a few songs out there that could actually inspire me to open that bottle a little sooner than I had planned. To complete the allusion the title represents, there are some things that make drinking, well, just come naturally.

Every person is different. People differ in every possible way. Especially when it comes to tastes and personal preferences of things. I respect that. For me, when I am drinking I enjoy listening to upbeat music as to keep an enjoyable mood flowing along. I choose a lot of 90’s music to soundtrack my drinking. It makes it all the better if I can shout out the lyrics while drinking with friends or even the occasional solo night.

The songs that make a night of drinking “complete” for me are the same ones that if I hear them randomly, I feel that little tinge to drink start to grow. My girlfriend can totally attest to this. Songs that just make me feel good, a good that can only be complimented by a nice cold beer. If I am at the bar, I always head for the jukebox and I always put in the same array of songs to hear. The patrons might get a little bored of it but I always catch them singing along or at least tapping a foot or two.

I know there is a lot of lead up here. A lead up to probably nothing extremely special or important to many people. Yet, to me, every moment in life can be enhanced by the right soundtrack, especially drinking. There was an episode of the show “Mad Men” where a character said that drinking was comparable to going home and loosening the tie after a hard day at the office. I agree and try to live by that notion. So here are a few songs that make an evening drinking that much more enjoyable and relaxing for me. Again, not everyone will agree with this. That is cool. These are just personal preferences.

My Own Worst Enemy – Lit This song is the #1 ultimate party song of all time. Nothing can get a crowd together like this song. Yelling the chorus out at the top of your lungs and singing along with the quirky lyrics just make this song a feel good drinking song.

Beer – Reel Big Fish This is pretty much self-explanatory. I love drinking to any Reel Big Fish song. They have an amazing ability to make catchy songs that are easy to drink to. “Sell Out” is a perfect example. Any song about beer and drinking is a great song to drink to, especially by an upbeat band.

Do Right – Jimmie’s Chicken Shack Songs about relationships that are less than perfect make for excellent drinking music. This one is easy to sing along to and it has a very upbeat melody that makes me want to drink. More songs in this genre (crappy relationships) that are in my personal playlist are: “Right Now” by SR71, “She Hates Me” by Puddle of Mudd, “Steal My Sunshine” by Len and plenty others.

The Middle – Jimmy Eat World Fun early to mid 90’s songs that are catchy are great to drink to. Again mainly for the knowing of the lyrics and the poppy music.

Wonderwall – Oasis

Standing Outside a Broken Phonebook with Money in My Hand – Primitive Radio Gods

Any song from Weezer, especially the Blue Album (Best album ever!!)

Drunken Lullabies – Flogging Molly ANY song by Flogging Molly is meant to be drunk to. Period.

Plowed – Sponge

Wasted – Paranoid Social Club This song was played during the ending credits of the movie Beerfest. This song was hard to find but well worth it. To be honest, every time I see or even think of that movie I have to drink.

There are so many more to choose from. This is just a mere sampling of the list but I feel that the idea has been gotten across. Next time you sit down for one or twelve, by yourself or with a group of people, just think about the kind of music that you like to hear. The music that makes drinking…just come naturally

Cheers!!
