We really like Germany.
This was our ninth trip to Germany, tying it with Ireland for our most traveled foreign land.
But this trip we tried to do something different. After a few days in Munich getting acclimated to Europe, we embarked on a "City with a Beer Style" tour.
We visited three cities that have their own beer style: Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Köln. We tried to experience as much of each city's beer culture in our time there as we could. We quaffed Export in Dortmund, Altbier in Düsseldorf and Kölsch in Köln. In our travels, we drank beer with Germans, Irish, Americans and Slovaks.
The last three days of our trip were spent in Mannheim for our friend Wolfgang's 50th birthday. We decided our time in Mannheim was 'down time' so we didn't blog about it. However, we did visit nearby Heidelberg where we picked up two new breweries.
The highlight of our time in Mannheim was Wolfgang's birthday party, which featured a performance by the Canadian punk bank the Dreadnoughts.
Our last day in Germany was spent at the Zentrale in Mannheim with a bunch of friends. The Dreadnoughts were kind enough to do an impromptu performance.
Here is what it is like spending an afternoon with a Canadian punk ...
We added ten new breweries to the List putting us within shouting distance of the 500 brewery milestone.
Look for the
One Pint at a Time episode later in August.
