So, I've got a starter kit, with an opaque bucket for a primary and a Better Bottle clear plastic carboy for secondary. Two things I'm very glad I purchased were the heavy-duty dial thermometer (it saved me a lot of anxiety on brew day) and the StarSan sanitizer. I'm already wishing for more gear, specifically:

-Wort chiller, because the ice bath was no fun.
-Adapters for the kitchen sink so I don't have to use the hose hookups.
-Another clear carboy so I can see what's going on in the primary! Not being able to see is kind of nerve wracking.
-The grain mill and lauter tun, but this can wait a few months.
-Empty bottles to put the stuff in, and a bottle tree to dry em.

The extra carboy offers the advantage of allowing me to have one more beer in the rotation if I'm okay with the opaque primary. I have two more extract kits with specialty grains sitting in my online shopping cart. I've already got willing takers for homebrew (of course) so I'm not drinking it all myself.

This could get to be an expensive hobby.
