The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

recently i made a batch of home made alchoholic ginger beer and it didnt carbonate :(
im fairly certain that i placed some priming agent in at the end , the flavour is pretty good ( i used some lactose to sweeten the mix ) but it hasnt worked
can i reopen the brew and try to prime it again ?

well great news my friends !!! The ginger beer , was only tricking me !!!! It seems when lactose is used in the process , it may take 4 weeks to prime! . Im having the same issue with a miners stout . Apparently it wont start to prime for a month either . The ginger beer was and is superb !
So again there ends the lesson . the slower the process the better the product !!!

How much yeast are you pitching? I've never used the Cooper's kits so I don't know how much yeast they supply but it's possible that there is not enough yeast leftover to prime the beer or it may be very slow.

Wow... I just joined today and I am also busy experimenting with Coopers at the moment. I am from South Africa but doing a stint in Sudan where it is a dry country, hence making my own beer. So far I have made the Lager and bottled some Draught and have a ginger beer and canadian Blonde in fermentation tanks. Did this a few years ago and was great, but found that if equipment is not 100% clean, will not secondry ferment and be flat. Brewed Ginger beer 3 days ago and will bottle in another 3 days time. Will keep you posted.

You might try doing a couple of bottles maybe add a coopers priming tab. I would just be concerned about over-carbonating and creating bottle bombs. Good luck.

its been 3 weeks and nothing . Tastes fine , and not too strong . Im just thinking with some of the 1.25 litre bottles it would be easy to at least try
. however if you think it prudent to just sit a bit more i will . It isnt going anywhere !

How long have you let it sit and at what temperature? I'd be hesitant to try repriming right away until you are completely sure it isn't priming.
