The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

If you have seen these kits in your LHBS and wondered if they are any good, I wrote a review about the ktis. The short story is that it produces good beer, but the one I tried didn't "wow" me. If you are looking to try homebrewing, but don't want to be bothered with all the boiling and equipment, these are a great way to go. I'll probably try others over the summer to see how they are.

Yeah... they list 5 lagers. I can't see how that will work without refrigeration. Maybe I'll try one of those next to see what they are doing. I'll bet that they are using ale yeast with lager recipes.

The real giveaway will be the kit that says "Authentic Czech Pilsner - no lagering required."

Keep us up to date, Deege!

The box says "Oktoberfest", but when I tried it my first thought was "this is not an Oktoberfest". I'm not sure when it got changed to "red ale".

I'll try a few more over the summer. They're like $40 and my neighbors will drink anything. :)

Yeah, they sure are playing the safety card with the "Stylistically positioned between a German Alt Beer and the Oktoberfest" description... You're a brave man, Deege!

Interesting. I've never heard of these kits. The style is odd, an Oktoberfest "ale"? I always think of Oktoberfest/Marzen style beers as lagers ... maybe that's why they call it a "red ale" elsewhere, huh? Let us know how the other kits turn out if you try 'em.
