“
One Ounce at a Time” is the latest episode of
One Pint at a Time.
Despite our whining about the one ounce pours, the Great American Beer Festival member’s session is now a highlight of our beer year. Beyond the vast beer choices, GABF is the one time of year where most of our beer friends from around the country gather in one place. Good beer, good friends… that’s what it’s all about.…

Our trip to Maine was the last of three successive quickie beer trips. Centered on Portland, Maine's largest city and brewing center, we also managed visits to breweries in small town Maine during our short visit.
In our two day visit, we experienced Maine's craft beer pioneers such as Geary's and the Great Lost Bear plus the newcomers Novare Res Bier Café and Maine Beer Company. And we ate a lot of lobster too.
We both reached the 500 brewery mark on the trip. Chris added eight breweries (503…

“
Three Days in the Big Apple” is the latest episode of
One Pint at a Time.
This was our first trip to New York City. We always try to maximize the experiences in our beer travels but, even for us, the list for this trip was ambitious. We had 32 beer places to visit and only three days to do it. Turns out, the number wasn’t our biggest obstacle to reaching our goal.
So enjoy our f…

We survived our first visit to the Big Apple. And I do mean "survived."
It was a great time. We met a lot of nice people and drank a lot of tasty beers that we don't get out here in California. There was just one problem: the weather.
It dominated the whole trip. We used to dread rain when we were on our beer travels. Now, we know there is a bigger nemesis, humidity.
We arrived in New York City with a list of 32 beer places to visit. We knew we weren't going to reach them all but it was fun t…

“
Three Cities, Three Styles” is the latest episode of
One Pint at a Time.
We are firm believers in beer needing to be tried in context of its culture. “Three Cities, Three Styles” was born out of this belief. We visited three German cities, Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Cologne, that each has it’s own unique style of beer. Over three days, we got to experience each beer style in the place of its birth. That is something special.…

Here is the second bonus video from our German trip. From the Trachtentag at the Hirschgarten in Munich. This is "Goaßlschnoizen" a Bavarian custom... an accordion accompanied by horse whips.

We really like Germany.
This was our ninth trip to Germany, tying it with Ireland for our most traveled foreign land.
But this trip we tried to do something different. After a few days in Munich getting acclimated to Europe, we embarked on a "City with a Beer Style" tour.
We visited three cities that have their own beer style: Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Köln. We tried to experience as much of each city's beer culture in our time there as we could. We quaffed Export in Dortmund, Altbier in Düsse…

“
Ales of Wales” is the latest episode of
One Pint at a Time.
We didn’t know what to expect from our journey to Wales. It was only a friend’s off-handed comment that brought us across the Irish Sea in the first place. With a little research, we learned several things about Wales; they have a strange language, there is a really tall mountain and, most importantly, there is a burgeoning craft beer movement brewing real ale.…

“
Those Crafty Irish” is the latest episode of One Pint at a Time.
This was our ninth trip to the Emerald Isle and she continues to be one of our favorite countries to visit. Throughout our trip, we focused on Irish Craft Beer, including ending our trip by attending the Easter Beer Festival in Cork. Over the years, we have met and befriended a number of people in the Irish craft beer community and this episode is really about their efforts to promote good bee…

We just returned from Ireland and Wales. It was our ninth trip to the Emerald Isle and our first to Wales.
Ireland continues to be one of our favorite countries to visit, mainly because of our increasing circle of friends in the beer community. In our decade of traveling there, we have seen the craft beer community grow and we have felt somewhat a part of it.
Wales was uncharted waters for us. We encountered some hurdles in our beer travels but the beer we drank and the people we met were wond…

“
Belgians, Trappists & Kerstbier” is the latest Year in Beer episode of
One Pint at a Time.
With December being the last month for the Year in Beer, we wanted to make it a special one. And what can be more special than a beer tour of Belgium. We had two main goals for the trip: visit all seven Trappist breweries and reach 450 breweries. The Year in Beer culminated at the…
