Jordan Kovats Going to be a father again...

There will be some extra beer oin the fridge now, since my wife won't be having any until next summer. We are expecting child #2. Somewhat of a high risk pregnancy being 40, but so far so good except for her being sick all the time. Jordan Continue

Chris of thebeergeek.com New beergeek.TV Episode - One Ounce at a Time

One Ounce at a Time” is the latest episode of One Pint at a Time. Despite our whining about the one ounce pours, the Great American Beer Festival member’s session is now a highlight of our beer year. Beyond the vast beer choices, GABF is the one time of year where most of our beer friends from around the country gather in one place. Good beer, good friends… that’s what it’s all about.… Continue

Cindy Fallsen Sugar Free Beer

We have taken in way too much sugar this Halloween season. I need to get our Dental Plan updated :). Anyway, it would be great to load up our Scotsman Ice Machine with a fantastic beer without having to worry about additional sugar intake. Any tips from you guys or recommendations? Continue

Outsider's Almanac New Glarus, The Grumpy Troll, and the Tutelage of the Open Road

As I mentioned the other day, WSD and I decided to celebrate this unexpected Indian Summer by making our way into the Great White North on Saturday in search of open roads and delicious craft brew. And, while our adventure took some acceptable, though unforeseen, detours, we were served some of the

Barry Wasser Barry's Beer Reviews I Westmalle Tripel and Cheese

Having tried the Westmalle Dubbel in the past, this was an easy choice for my first video review of a Belgian trappist ale. Also, since tripel is amongsts my favorite styles of Belgian ales, I love trying new ones when I get the chance. Surprisingly before drinking this fine beer, I hadn't had a trappist ale in quite a while. One thing I had never done before the review was pair a tripel with cheese. So I asked the cheese people at Whole Foods (97th and Columbus, NYC) for a go… Continue

Tim Nichols Washington beer community loses a true icon, Dick Young

Over the weekend, Dick Young, one of the true icons of Washington brewing passed away from an aneurysm at his lodge in Lewis County, Washington. While the eponymously named Dick's Brewing Company may not be even close to one of the biggest breweries in the state, you cannot consider yourself a lover of great beer if you have never had a Dick's. Their flagship Dick Danger (Dick's favorite) is the perfect beer after day of skiing/snowboarding. A cross between a pale ale and a porter, it is not too… Continue

Chris of thebeergeek.com Our Maine Travel Report

Our trip to Maine was the last of three successive quickie beer trips. Centered on Portland, Maine's largest city and brewing center, we also managed visits to breweries in small town Maine during our short visit. In our two day visit, we experienced Maine's craft beer pioneers such as Geary's and the Great Lost Bear plus the newcomers Novare Res Bier Café and Maine Beer Company. And we ate a lot of lobster too. We both reached the 500 brewery mark on the trip. Chris added eight breweries (503… Continue

Bernie Dorman Writing About Beer... While Drinking One

Sorry about the typos, but whenever I have a tasty Heineken (wow, I spelt it right) my typing goes out the window (or into the urinal). SO far, this site has been a detriment to my getting any work done, good thing I am self employed, because I would fire my butt. I come on here to see who has been visiting my profile, see a couple of nice tasty ales in the photos, and then I forget about working and run to the fridge for a cold Heiney! My taste buds are dancing for joy as I slug down a quarter… Continue

Chris of thebeergeek.com New beergeek.TV Episode - Three Days in the Big Apple

Three Days in the Big Apple” is the latest episode of One Pint at a Time. This was our first trip to New York City. We always try to maximize the experiences in our beer travels but, even for us, the list for this trip was ambitious. We had 32 beer places to visit and only three days to do it. Turns out, the number wasn’t our biggest obstacle to reaching our goal. So enjoy our fContinue

KronoNaut Building a portable kegerator.

I'm building a portable kegerator from plans found in a brewing magazine. There is one thing I couldn't figure out how to do easily. The kegerator will hold three corny kegs. I don't want to leave the gas cylinders out where prying hands can mess with the pressure. I found a large "salesman's" clothing case on wheels, and it will fit two CO2 cylinders. So now I will be able to cool the kegs, and keep the gas away from people that like to mess with things they shouldn't. Gary Continue

Bryan Smith Different types of beer

All beer lovers out there, you must have drank many many mugs of beer over the years. Have you noticed that sometimes they taste different than what you have had earlier that’s because there are different kinds of beer and most people here probably know that. Here is a list of beer varieties I know about. You may discover a new variety or feel free to add a variety of beer you know about: • Banana beer: a beer made by fermenting mashed bananas This variety of beer is popular in Kenya, Uganda and… Continue

Allison Carman Complete Beer Novice Knows What She Likes

Okay...so you'll figure out that I'm a complete beer novice because I barely know the names of beers, but I know what I like and don't like. This blog is going to be devoted to trying different beers at breweries. I'll try them and report back on the experience, the food and of course the taste of the beer. Beer is so filling that I can only have one, so I pick carefully. First lets start with what I DON'T like: Coors, Bud Light or Michelob would be at the top of that list for me. They taste… Continue

Beer Poet Ode to a Draft

Being a beer poet, I thought i would write a poem that is an ode to a draft: Ode to A Draft: Oh beer, in your glorious wonder as you sit in front of me in the glistening frosty glass You taste so smooth your color like honey so freshly brewed you entice me taking each sip one by one enjoying all your flavors your hops are making me sing :) Do you like my beer poem? Well, if you can do better than I want to hear yours! Continue
