Over the weekend, Dick Young, one of the true icons of Washington brewing passed away from an aneurysm at his lodge in Lewis County, Washington. While the eponymously named Dick's Brewing Company may not be even close to one of the biggest breweries in the state, you cannot consider yourself a lover of great beer if you have never had a Dick's. Their flagship Dick Danger (Dick's favorite) is the perfect beer after day of skiing/snowboarding. A cross between a pale ale and a porter, it is not too…

Our trip to Maine was the last of three successive quickie beer trips. Centered on Portland, Maine's largest city and brewing center, we also managed visits to breweries in small town Maine during our short visit.
In our two day visit, we experienced Maine's craft beer pioneers such as Geary's and the Great Lost Bear plus the newcomers Novare Res Bier Café and Maine Beer Company. And we ate a lot of lobster too.
We both reached the 500 brewery mark on the trip. Chris added eight breweries (503…

Sorry about the typos, but whenever I have a tasty Heineken (wow, I spelt it right) my typing goes out the window (or into the urinal).
SO far, this site has been a detriment to my getting any work done, good thing I am self employed, because I would fire my butt. I come on here to see who has been visiting my profile, see a couple of nice tasty ales in the photos, and then I forget about working and run to the fridge for a cold Heiney! My taste buds are dancing for joy as I slug down a quarter…

“
Three Days in the Big Apple” is the latest episode of
One Pint at a Time.
This was our first trip to New York City. We always try to maximize the experiences in our beer travels but, even for us, the list for this trip was ambitious. We had 32 beer places to visit and only three days to do it. Turns out, the number wasn’t our biggest obstacle to reaching our goal.
So enjoy our f…

I'm building a portable kegerator from plans found in a brewing magazine. There is one thing I couldn't figure out how to do easily.
The kegerator will hold three corny kegs. I don't want to leave the gas cylinders out where prying hands can mess with the pressure. I found a large "salesman's" clothing case on wheels, and it will fit two CO2 cylinders.
So now I will be able to cool the kegs, and keep the gas away from people that like to mess with things they shouldn't.

All beer lovers out there, you must have drank many many mugs of beer over the years. Have you noticed that sometimes they taste different than what you have had earlier that’s because there are different kinds of beer and most people here probably know that. Here is a list of beer varieties I know about. You may discover a new variety or feel free to add a variety of beer you know about:
• Banana beer: a beer made by fermenting mashed bananas This variety of beer is popular in Kenya, Uganda and…

Okay...so you'll figure out that I'm a complete beer novice because I barely know the names of beers, but I know what I like and don't like.
This blog is going to be devoted to trying different beers at breweries. I'll try them and report back on the experience, the food and of course the taste of the beer.
Beer is so filling that I can only have one, so I pick carefully.
First lets start with what I DON'T like: Coors, Bud Light or Michelob would be at the top of that list for me. They taste…

Hallo.
Sind denn hier auch deutschsprachige Bierfreunde unterwegs? Ich poste solange mal meine favourite Biersorte aus good new germany:
Tegernseer
Das Tegernseer ist einfach unglaublich lecker, nicht von einer Mulitmilliarden Hektoliter ausstossenden, globalen Brauerei und ein Stück von Bayern!

Being a beer poet, I thought i would write a poem that is an ode to a draft:
Ode to A Draft:
Oh beer,
in your glorious wonder
as you sit in front of me
in the glistening
frosty glass
You taste so smooth
your color like honey
so freshly brewed
you entice me
taking each sip
one by one
enjoying all your flavors
your hops
are making me sing :)
Do you like my beer poem? Well, if you can do better than I want to hear yours!

We survived our first visit to the Big Apple. And I do mean "survived."
It was a great time. We met a lot of nice people and drank a lot of tasty beers that we don't get out here in California. There was just one problem: the weather.
It dominated the whole trip. We used to dread rain when we were on our beer travels. Now, we know there is a bigger nemesis, humidity.
We arrived in New York City with a list of 32 beer places to visit. We knew we weren't going to reach them all but it was fun t…

“
Three Cities, Three Styles” is the latest episode of
One Pint at a Time.
We are firm believers in beer needing to be tried in context of its culture. “Three Cities, Three Styles” was born out of this belief. We visited three German cities, Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Cologne, that each has it’s own unique style of beer. Over three days, we got to experience each beer style in the place of its birth. That is something special.…

Hi, friends.
You may have noticed that as of late I’ve slowed down my beer blogging considerably, and I have a very good reason: I’ve slowed my beer consumption considerably, and may very well stop drinking altogether. Before continuing, I want to say that I still very much love the craft beer movement, many of my friends and colleagues who enjoy, photograph, tweet, and blog about beer, and that I’ll still raise a glass with you, I just might not have any beer in mine.
I want to especially tha…
