The way I was introduced to great beer was to sit down with someone who knew what they were talking about and visited a brewpub to get a sampler. Then, they walked me through it, explaining hops, malt, aroma, clarity, etc. I'd recommend it to anyone…

nice idea - for me, it would depend what kind of thing my 'beginner' would want to start - I can certainly think of maybe one of as many styles as I can think of - so you'd have: SNPA, Orval, Aventinus, Fuller's London Porter, Hopback's Summer Light…
