I love the dark stuff, Double D...not so much. Find out what we thought of Dogfish Head's Palo Santo Marron in this video beer review: http://drinklikafish.webs.com/apps/videos/videos/show/13900690-dogf...

As I broaden my palet, I have become quite fond of the different roasted flavors of the stouts and porters. Chocolate and coffee are obvious, but I've found caramel, toffee, and even hints of licorice.

'Tis a sin to say that only the colder months are for the dark side. Granted I take a sabbatical and enjoy a few more of the lighter shades in the warmer months but I always return to the beauty of something deep and dark. Heck, just this last weekend I started my homebrew that, fingers crossed, will result in a chocolate chai cream stout. Haven't named it yet. I'm looking forward to an epiphany when it passes my lips.

Greetings fellow Dark Beer lovers from a snowy England, just the weather to be out and about enjoying a drop or two of the dark stuff. Locally we have the excellent Harveys Old Ale (4.2%) on sale, and also the superb Larkins Porter. This 5.2% beer takes a bit more tracking down, but is well worth the effort - you can almost taste the chocolate notes in it from the chcolate malt used in the grist. It is the ideal pint for keeping out the cold during this, unusual for us at least, snowy weather.

Yes! It tis the season for browns. This weekend I tried Pullman Brown Ale, Dark Horse One Oatmeal Stout and the Goose Island Christmas ale. Fantastic drinking. The Dark Horse was delectable. Dark and smokey. The browns were good however the Goose had a little much carbonation for my taste. I'm still waiting on GI's Bourbon County. It's going to be a tasty winter in Chicago.

The darker the better. There are some nice lighter brews, but there are few bad dark beers.

I believe it's finally starting to get cooler outside. That can only mean one thing. Soon it will be dark beer season. All those stouts I've been saving up will soon be ready to open. Anyone else ready for some dark beer? I've got a bottle of Deschutes The Abyss hidden away. Plan to open that up for the upcoming NFL kickoff weekend.

Had the Youngs awhile back, very nice beer. I'm just finishing up a bunch of different Milk Stouts. Left Hand, Duck Rabbit, Lancaster, Keegan, and the Kitachino Sweet Stout. Sorry to say, but I think I'm ready to move on to something lighter for awhile!

Recently enjoyed a Young's Double Chocolate Stout and a Sam Adams Imperial Stout. Very worth brews. About to pop open a North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout that I've been aging in my basement for a year.
