The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

Had one of these last night, didn't really know what to expect when I opened it.

It was one of the beers i picked up in Columbus on saturday. They had just got it in and offered me a 4 pack, so i took it. When I looked at the receipt the other day it said dogfish brown. So I wasn't expecting much. Something newcastle-ish (maybe).

Poured it, man, that shit was DARK brown. Definitely brown but thicker than most porters (and a few stouts).

Very woody flavour, but lots of malt... lots and lots of malt.

I drank it to enjoy instead of to pick apart flavours, but the next one will be scrutinized.

Good brew, most places should have it for about $13 a four pack.

I'm looking forward to this one - I wrote about it, briefly, at the end of my DFH Indian Brown review a while back. I doubt any DFH brown will ever be "Newcastle-ish."

As the discussion thread under my review attests, there seems to be such a wide range of beers that, technically, count as a Brown Ale, but resemble each other very little ... this, to me, argues for sub-styles (like stouts), but do we really need more style designations ... ? Maybe just "Imperial Brown"?
