Wow. 2009 what a year! its been crazy and I have only brewed 2 or three times in the last 6 months. Lost my brewing buddy. But 2010 is bound to be much much better. My lovely wife recently told me that she is interested in learning to brew! Partly I think to take pity on me and encourage me to continue doing something I love and partly to take an interest and understand why I love it so much. She is not a beer drinker, so this is a big deal for me. My all grain system is looking very neglected and this weekend I plan on rebuilding my kegs and giving my draft system a thorough cleaning ( along with the garage dear lol ). I am hoping that 2010 will bring about the homebrew club I envisioned establishing last year. So yes this is a call to arms.Brewers, all grain or extract, cider and mead makers, I am calling on you to help make this happen! Ideally I would like to have a monthly brew day, beer trading, styles tastings, maybe a field trip to nearby breweries, and potlucks with beer pairings etc... Ultimately a brewers co-op is also a goal. Maybe its my good Scottish thrift at play here but the idea of buying at bulk rate discounts and passing savings onto ourselves and any other brewers that may come out of the woodwork is very appealing. I am interested in feedback from you as to whether any of my ale brained ideas have appeal.

With a massive group of 3 its time for a party. We should all try and get together some time for some homebrew and/or craft beers and some good times.

Sorry for the typos. My 18 mo old was a very energetic distraction lol. By Lodge, I do mean club

Well its official, having spoken to both Rob and Shawn, I have gotten the green light to use both the Aleumanit and Alechemist sames to form the first "Lodge" of the Aleumanti, whose members will be known as "Alechemists". yeah by "Lodge", Hopefully other Lodges will be created regionally. The Bakersfield Lodge of the Aleumanati will be meeting in a few weeks to work out local details and schedule a Lodge brewday. If interested in joining in, let me know. All skill levels, novice to experienced are welcome as are both extract and all grain brewers. Hope to include you.

I am considering getting a brew club goin here in Bako. There was once a Brew club called "the Mad Brewers" but they are apparently defunct. I hope to schedule brewery tours, share brew days and tips. Have tastings( both home brews and style "calibrations", I know a couple other brewers in the area that have all expressed an interest. So I am hitting you up lol With enough active memebership, ideally I would hope to open up a homebrew co-op, where we could buy bulk and save in brewing costs. LEt me know if you have any interest,

Haven't brewed in several weeks.Just kegged my last batch last night as a matter of fact. A light copper "Irish" ale that I dry "hopped" with heather tips, and have a cider aging on single malt infused oak I am affectionately calling "Johnny Tarr". With several new recipes on deck, I am hoping to get a brew day in about 3 weeks. If you are interested in going AG you are more than welcome to join in and brew a batch along side mine or we could do a split/double batch and you take your half home to ferment I have been in the spring clean and tinker mode lately. replacing gaskets and seals in kegs, repiping my brew rig ( have an annoying air leak causing a sooty flame) and rebuilding my draft system to include an "Irish coffin" etc... What have you brewed lately?

Hi Seamus,

Have you been brewing lately? I have done 3 in the last few weeks. I am still extract but may go AG in this year sometime.

This Saturday, October 4th, The Wine and Cheese Cellar in Tehachapi will be hosting an all day event of German beer and wine tasting. A great opportunity for one of my favorite food pairings, beer and artisanal cheese. Planning on attending ( after kids soccer games). We will be attending with another couple( including my brewing buddy) if you and your wife would be interested in going, let me know.

Glad for the opportunity to meet another Bako brewer. Now that the weather will be cooling down in the near future, I am anxious to put my brew system back to use after a summer of building/tinkering. I have only brewed 3 times this summer, a heather ale, a very bland picnic beer for my less adventurous family members, and a FW double barrel clone. I built my system with portability in mind as I hope to hold some brew days as family oriented bbq's/ bocce tournaments at riverview park.
