The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

Hi All,

For those of you looking for "something completely different" I recommend the Durden Park Beer Circle. This group of British beer enthusiasts are on a mission to recreate the beers of yesteryear. They have a book out, Old British Beers and How to Brew Them, which I bought and reviewed on my blog.

Their website is www.durdenparkbeer.org.uk If that does not work, google them. They have some of their recipes on line. They are very different from the standard American fare. Pay close attention to the amount of beer each recipe is supposed to make. This club goes big or goes home!

Cheers!

TIM

I checked out their website and noticed 3 hour mash times for pretty much all of their recipes. I wonder if they just get a few extra percentage points on their brewhouse efficiencies or if the super long mash imparts some sort of character to their beers... You're right though, those guys seem like pretty serious beer clubsters.

Finally got a chance to look at this. I kind of wonder with a 3 hour mash, how difficult would it be to maintain that temperature and whether you'd get some tannin extraction even at the lower temps. Interesting though.
