The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

I've been on a Porter kick lately. I've had many in the past, but didn't pay much attention to them. However, after trying a few lately, I'm really enjoying them. So what's your favorite Porter?

I've had two porters that stick in my mind during this last year. 1) Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, 2) Bell's Porter

Both very smooth. I'd love to drink these anytime.

Certainly Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter but also think that Anchor Brewing makes an underrated porter. Vicotry Brewing outside of Philadelphia makes a nice Baltic Porter known as Baltic Thunder. I've actually named my dog "Porter" because of my love for this style

Recently enjoyed Meantime's porter, and can always find time for Black Butte.

I'll second the vote for Bell's Porter. Mmmm.

Hmmm... I hate picking faves because frankly my tongue had ADD. However, if I had to pick... I'll agree with Chipper Dave and say the Breck Vanilla Porter rocks.

However, I just discovered Twisted Pine's Northstar Imperial Porter which is also fantastic.

Ya, Twisted Pine's Northstar made a good impression at the All Colorado Beer Fest last weekend. Going to have to invest in a full bottle of that to evaluate. 2oz samples just aren't enough. Another recent porter I tried and loved was the Pyro Porter and Pyro Espresso Porter from the Pumphouse Brewery & Restaurant in Longmont Colorado. The espresso version was simply wonderful - a nice blending in of coffee into an already wonderful porter.

+1 Anchor Porter "Dev71"
A favorite of mine is Anchor Porter. The wife also likes it which makes it hard to keep in the house.

I have to agree with Virgil on the Great Lakes Brewing's Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. Great stuff.

My personal favorite (and has been for a few years now) is Central Waters' Mudpuppy Porter. They still only distribute within Wisconsin though, which is unfortunate. If you find yourself in the land of cheese, I'd recommend picking some up. Even better, visit their brewing facility and try it on nitro. Truly sublime.
Cheers!

I've had a few, and I'd say that porters are one of my least favorite styles, just above lagers. I've had Bell's, J.W. Dundee's, Yuengling, Anchor, Captain Lawrence (Smoke from the Oak), Rogue Mocha Porter, Olfabrikken, Flying Dog Road Dog, and Sierra Nevada's Porter. All in all, I don't care for the smokiness, the leathery scent, the ultra smooth texture, or the color and other visuals of the style in comparison to, let's say, imperial stouts and porters. The scent is espeically off-putting for me. I think that imperial porters is likely a different discussion. That being said, Olfabrikken and Bells were probably my favorites. Here's the list of my porter reviews:

I totally forgot about another porter that I recently tried and loved - Alaskan Smoked Porter. Starts out with big smoke taste but it really grows on you. I finished an entire 22oz bottle and fell in love with it after it was gone. The wood used to smoke the grains is the same they use to smoke salmon. Very worth. I heard Alaskan Brewing is releasing a Baltic Porter soon too. Going to look for that.

Porter is a style I don't drink nearly enough of but two that really stand out for me are the Alaskan Smoked Porter as well as Deschutes Black Butte XX, which I thought was simply amazing.
