The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

One of the challenges of being a Belgian and Ale drinker who also has diabetes is that most of the great tasting brews have a lot of carbohydrates and some have a lot of alcohol. Alcohol presents an interesting problem. The carbohydrates raise blood sugars ( within minutes ) but the alcohol lowers blood sugar hours later. For someone on insulin this present a challenge of how much insulin to take to control the blood sugars. I have tried a few low carbohydrates brews but ... they leave much to be desired. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd recommend cutting the carbs from somewhere else, and saving them for beer.

here's a list of some beers with their carb count

http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art14302.asp

on that, I'd recommend... um...

Sam Adams light, 9.7g's of carbs

or

mich ultra amber, 3.7g's

if you read the article, disregard the frosted glass part, darn beer n00bs giving out advice.

I don't know if this helps but:
I've had a low-gluten ale made by Deschutes, but my experience with it wasn't very positive. It tasted like flowery perfume, and I can't imagine drinking a pint of that.

However; low-gluten ales are out there. Perhaps they will improve in the future.

I say brew it yourself. Its a great hobby and you can get all the flavor you want.
