The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

Okay, so I've often decried the fact that southern Illinois is a veritable beer wasteland. We have some great craft brewers on the outskirts of our area (Schlafly, O'Fallon, Boulevard), but they're a good 100 miles away or more. Because of this, and the very restrictive distribution structure here, many of the great beers, from great brewers, are impossible to find.

So, I thought I'd compile my current "wish list" of beers (albeit incomplete) in the hopes that fellow Aleums might have access to them and be willing to consider a trade of some type. Again, this isn't an exhaustive list by any means, but I'd love to get my hands on (in no particular order of preference):

- Russian River Supplication, Beatification or Temptation

- Port Brewing/Lost Abbey The Angel's Share, Gift of the Magi, Lost & Found ... oh hell, any of them, really.

- New Glarus Wisconcin Belgian Red, Raspberry Tart

It's actually pretty easy for me to wrangle the funky, cork-finished Russian River brews, and we'll soon be getting Tomme's stuff shipped up here as well, if my local buyer can be trusted. If you want, I'll poke around a little for them and get back to you once I've got some in hand (but sorry, no, I'm not parting with my first-batch magnums of Supplication and Temptation). Anything else Californian on your wish list?

Shawn...nice wish list and funny really....except for the RR Temptation I have all of those beers in my cellar, why dont you come on over and share some with me!

Now, I know we are blessed here in PA with ridiculous availabity but I am also a collector and a half.

My wish list hmmmm....

Midnight Sun Seven Deadly Sins.....all of them

Lost Abbey Red Poppy

All I can think of right now....I am sure there wil be more!

Ohhh ...Red Poppy, I should have added that one to my list too!

Ok, I have never even heard of these beers. Save New Glarus this is one I HAVE heard of. Wasteland? I must be there as well. I will continue to keep my eyes and ears open on this page to learn more.

Red Poppy - am I gonna fail a drug test if I drink this beer?

ok... I've never traded, but hell, I'm willing, and I like this Aleuminated community much better than either "rating/advocating" sites already...

wanted: Russian River, absolutely. Other things, too, but having stopped by there last Spring, I discovered how totally real the hype was on them and regretted only bringing home one bottle (of Redemption). I'd be interested in any other -ation, but Beatification might top my list.

Other areas I'm interested in... someone mentioned AZ; I used to live in Tucson and would be well into getting some Mugillion again, if that's possible.

GA... Terrapin- the rye in particular.

I'm in western NY, so... I can get a pretty wide array of Northeast and even midwest/mid-atlantic stuff. I could enumerate, but probably easier just to see what anyone wants.

All of these and many more on my wish list -- though there is a strong effort from places like Canal's in Burlington NJ to acquire these brews in NJ, it hasn't happened yet, AFAIK. (sigh)

All you people make me cry everytime I read topics like this. I wish there were more people, but more importantly more great brews to swap and sample in Australia.

I've traded a few times with some people, but when there are only so many options available it makes it difficult.

Good luck everyone with your trades.

Finally got to try Lost Abbey's Red Poppy at the GABF this year. Wow! Was that great beer! I've heard that Lost Abbey is not starting to sell in Colorado. Will have to see if I can pick up a bottle of this and take it home.

I've never tried any of these, I'm curious the most about the raspberry tart...is it made with raspberries? What kind of beer is it?
