The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

If there's one thing I enjoy as much as fine craft beer... it's sports. And with sports comes FANTASY sports. I'm an addict.

Fran, my brother (who will be joining the Aleuminati today, since he's the one that actually got me into microbrews) and I have a NASCAR fantasy league going on Yahoo. I know it's a little late since Daytona revs up today, but better late than never, eh?

Go to Yahoo Sports. Click on little red Fantasy tab on the right side (or click on the link I provided), and join the fun!

League Name is: Those Who Like To Turn Left
League password: nascar0208

If NASCAR ain't your thang... baseball is RIGHT around the corner, so is March Madness. I'll be starting up leagues for those as well!

NASCAR - a crowd of people drinking beer and hoping for a car wreck and a few people in cars hurrying to get done driving so they CAN drink a beer.

LMAO! I couldn't agree more. In fact, I had this very same argument with my brother - who is a huge NASCAR fan for some reason - while watching football (a real sport) and drinking beer. I enjoy watching it... to drink beer and hope for a car wreck. ;)

NASCAR is much like golf... neither is a sport. ;)

I've come up with a definition for "sport".

If you have to go out and purchase new shoes for the activity, then it's a sport.

Shoes that you wear to work on a daily basis do not count.

Therefore, racecar drivers are in the sport, but the mechanics aren't. (oddly enough).

You don't need shoes to drive a car. Therefore your definition doesn't work.

Try this one. There are 3 main requirements to be a sport.
1. Man must provide the power and stepping on the gas doesn't count.
2. There must be a clear cut winner or loser based on performance on the field of play
3. It can not be fully judged to decide a winner

So NASCAR only meets 2 of three criteria. Hence it is not a sport.

Nascar drivers wear special shoes that have a plate in them to keep their feet from burning (or something like that).

If it's on ESPN, unfortunately, it's probably a sport. So that includes bowling, nascar, the lumberjack thingies, and even the ranger challenge (which is friggin cool).

I agree with number 3. In order to be a sport, it shouldn't be based on the interpretation of judges. But then, this leaves out ski jumping and moguls (i think). I can live with gymnastics not being a sport.

Hope you guys got your picks in! Mine are locked in. GL all.

gisbrewmaster said: There are 3 main requirements to be a sport.

I have ONE:

1. A sport requires athletes to play it.

In order to be an athlete one has to constantly train in order to remain in peak physical condition. To be a true athlete in a true sport one has to physically exert one's self during the performance of said sport.

While Tiger may be an athlete, John Daly is not. Some NASCAR drivers may be in good shape, most are not. Hitting a little white ball with a big stick and then leisurely walking (or driving in a little cart) to where it lands only to hit it again, all the while never having to lift a finger to carry your own clubs... not a sport. Ever. At least in motor "sports" there is the chance of the driver getting seriously hurt. How can anyone in golf get hurt, they don't even carry their own clubs!!!!

One final comment, going off Chipper's shoe concept... any "sport" where you can walk off the field of play straight into a four star restaurant without changing clothes automatically disqualifies it from ever being a sport. Ever.

These are the recognized as a sport sports: soccer, basketball, football, baseball, hockey, tennis, volleyball, rugby, La Crose, Jai Alai, squash, water polo... etc.

Activities that fall under the "not even close to a sport" category: bowling, poker, darts, lawn darts, beer guzzling, beer pong, ping pong, horsey polo, horse racing, dominoes, checkers, chess, curling, shuffle board, etc. and so on.

Do you know how difficult it is to to bounce a ping ball in a plastic cup when you are already drunk. Also it takes a stomach of steel to drink beer that has mud, grass, and who knows what else. I play dirty beer pong. I think it might have to move up to the sports list.

john daly is awesome! just because he doesn't fit the normal definition of "in shape" doesn't mean he's not an athlete.

If you've ever watched him swing a driver, you'd recognize that he is in shape. (other than round). The man has surprising flexibility. Fitness is normally comprised of 3 things, strength, endurance and flexibility. He's got both strength and flexibility.

tiger normally only takes the club to parallel to the ground, daly can look to see if his clubface is open!

that and he likes beer.

Time to get thinking about Fantasy Football again. Just about 50 days before draft day. I believe Eli has started up the Aleuminati League again on Yahoo Sports. We play for beer by the way so there's always some good incentive to win.

If you love beer and fantasy football consider joining in this year. We'd love to have more teams this year. Here is a link to the Yahoo Sports site. If you already have a Yahoo account then it's real easy to sign up, but if you don't it doesn't take much time to get one set up.

Is it to late to get into the Fantasy football this year. I went to the link and it said the invetation is on longer valid.
