The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

Hey there. I've been blogging with Blogger for more than a year now, and I admit that I chose it because Google made it, and they make a lot of cool things, so I went with it. At first it was quite easy to use and fit my needs perfectly, but now I feel like I'm "outgrowing" it. I have more content that I'd like to add and not just have it shoved off into sidebars. I think the biggest weakness is that it doesn't allow you to make multiple pages, and I'm getting pretty full up on my main page.

Do any of the beer bloggers out there use software other than Blogger? I'm curious to hear what you like or don't like about other choices out there for blogging.

Thanks for the input. :)

Hi... beer babe...we switched to Wordpress a year of so ago. There were features in blogger that wordpress lacked, like color, text wrap around photos. But Wordpress has fixed all that. You can check out my blog at www.ibabuzz.com/beer. They do have unlimited pages, but in the style our company makes us use, you only get a header called Pages, then links to your various pages.

Summary. Wordpress is OK, but I'm kind of underwhelmed. One important thing before you switch, be sure you know someone who really understands Wordpress and can help you have problems or if it gets hacked -- that's what happened to my private blog. One day, all the content, four years of blogging was gone. -- william brand

Having published blogs on both Blogger and Wordpress, it sounds like you're ready to make the leap in migrating to Wordpress, as long as you're willing to handle a little bit of a learning curve in implementing your expansion ideas, as well as being willing to get your hands dirty doing a bit more coding within the pages rather than how Blogger just does most everything in a WYSIWYG dashboard. I keep Pfiff! on Blogger just because I don't need the extra pages on the header, but imagine that if you *really* wanted to, you could make it happen.

If you don't mind editing some of the template files, it's fairly easy to have WP stop putting every page on the header... in your header (Header.php) or Sidebar (Sidebar.php), there should be a line like this:

*<*?*php //wp_list_pages('title_li=*<*h2>Blog Pages ' ); ?>
(with no stars; otherwise the forum thought I was trying to give it code; also, the title_li stuff may be different, I dunno)

Add two slashes to the start of the line so it looks like this:

*<*?*php //wp_list_pages('title_li=*<*h2>Blog Pages ' ); ?>
Voila!

Code monkey, awayyyyyy!

I'm using Joomla on mine, but I'd recommend Wordpress. Any future blogs I create will use Wordpress. Joomla uses too many CPU cycles...

Is there an automated way to convert a Blogger site to a Wordpress site? Do they have an article import function on Wordpress? For those of us considering moving to Wordpress, I'd like to know if the transition could be made a bit easier.
