The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

So... I used to live with 5 roomates who had a "brilliant idea" to keep all of our bottle caps from the various brews we were trying (we went through 100 different kinds of beer that year) with the hopes of making a table, wall piece, or some kind of art with it. I don't think there was a specific plan but phase 1 was to keep every bottlecap... ever. So, now that I live with just one roomate I apparently have inhereted the bottlecap... uh... legacy.

My question- It has been a long time getting these, and I am in need of inspiration for a project. Has anyone done anything productive with the caps that you've seen? Perhaps can you point me in the direction of what I should do with them (other than throw them out)

P.S. I kid you not I have a ridiculous quantity of them, too, so no suggestion is too big...

Thanks!

I covered my coffee table with caps and will be doing my end tables as soon as I have some free time.

Was at a brewpub in Columbus Ohio where they took caps and did something similar on the wall. You could do a tile mosaic type thing with them.

I've also used them to line the edge of my shelves (that hold empty bottles).

I've thought about making a chain mail type thing out of them, but that's way too complicated for me.

You'll find one of the problems in working with bottle caps, is the space under the lip. I used cut up pieces of hot glue as dowel pieces.

Just a suggestion. Seriously though, lemme know what advice you end up with. I too have a plethora of beer bottle caps.

Funny, there's a thing on there about global warming.

Nice. I was thinking of a project like that, and the idea about the shelf edges is an interesting one....

Hehe. I think I see some dogfish head 120 minute caps in there :)

I created a funky little makeshift tambourine/noisemaker with some of my caps and a butchered wire hanger and attached it to an african hand drum i have. I still have a large fishbowl overflowing (by a solid inch) with caps, and a gallon ziplock bag full just chillin with nothing to do.

make a counter top out of them that would be sharp ,plus you could always do what my local bar did and thats take the bottle caps and mix them in with tiles of famous beer quotes on the wall of your bathroom.

I love the bottlecap table, that rocks! A really good site for crafty inspiration is craftster.org - I love that site anytime i'm in the creative let's make something mood.

I've seen for sale a long time ago belts and purses that were made with them, they were pretty cool looking.

You could always make coasters too, that would be good for when you're serving beer at home :)
