The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

I've seen recently that it's said that most American's live within 10 miles of a brewery.

So how far away do you live from the nearest brewery/brew pub?

(Your basement doesn't count... unless it does)

My nearest brewery is 55.8 miles (the next is 58 miles, and I like that one better)

We'll be getting a brewery within a couple of years as the people who made the one I like in bloomington open one in CU.

0.7 miles. (And no, that's not the distance to my basement.)

My town has two brewery/brewpubs. Both are within 5 miles of me. But the bigger ones (New Belgium, Odells, Fort Collins Brewery, A-B) are within 25 miles of me. So I guess I'm lucky to be within a quick drive of several. Once I start homebrewing later this summer then I'll have one right in my own home.

I am 8.5 miles from Cottrell (according to Mapquest).

I find it hard to believe that most americans live within 10 miles of a brewery.

There are only a handful in the whole state of Connecticut, and a lot of people around the country don't live within 10 miles of a grocery store, much less a brewery. Maybe it's skewed by high population density in cities, where there's likely to be a brewery somehwere in the city, at least a brewpub.

The home fermenter is about 10 feet away and the nearest licensed brewery is about 5 miles (Barrio Brewing Company).

I think you are right, it has a lot to do with population density.

Of course, the one that's 55 miles away from me, is also 55 minutes away. For people in chicago who are 10 miles away, it might take them 1.5 hours to get there.

9.5 miles to Redhook in Portsmouth
12.1 miles to the Portsmouth Brewery, home of Kate the Great
14.4 miles to Smuttynose Brewing Company.

If I lived in Portsmouth and not Dover I could walk to two of them, but right now I live within walking distance to a few pubs that age beer and keep wonderful things on tap, so I'm content!

Hmmm ... let's see ... I suppose the closest is technically Buckner Brewing Company in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at about 45 miles from Carbondale. This is not, however, much of a destination unfortuately.

Apart from that, we jump to at least 100 miles away. Morgan Street Brewery in St. Louis at 105.5 miles; Square One Brewery at 107.7 miles; The St. Louis Brewery, Inc. Taproom (Schlafly) at 107.8 miles; Lemp at 108.8 miles and O'Fallon Brewery at 133.7 miles.

I truly do live in the beer wasteland.

The closest for me is Gordon Biersch then Crescent City Brewhouse at about 5 miles. NOLA Brewing will be releasing product this October and they are about 7 miles away. Abita and Heiner Brau are about 30-40 miles away.
