The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

The only thing that's mysterious is why people would drink cheap, fizzy beer.

Tell us your ultimate summertime beer! Could be a specific beer, from a specific brewer, or a particular style ...

So what beer gets you through the "dog days"?

Blue Moon is still my guilty summertime pleasure. Pressed for a less obscure answer, I'd lean toward the Gordon Biersch Marzen that I've tried a couple times lately. As for an ultimate summertime beer, I suppose if a particular taste were involved it would be a light citrus flavor. Certainly nothing too heavy with temperatures hitting 110 here the last week or more!

Great topic by the way.

I would have to go with Blue Moon as well if we're looking for "refreshing." However, I'm a year-round dark beer drinker...I enjoy a nice CW Satin Solstice on the Summer Solstice :)

Yeah, I'm with you on the dark beer...if I can sit in the shade and don't have to mow the lawn! Here in the desert SW the term summer beer has real meaning, but I don't neglect the stouts and porters either and your reference to the solstice gives new meaning to "seasonal" beer, really!

Reply to This

Absolutely! Ironically though, the Satin Solstice would be considered by most to be a "winter solstice" beer...to hell with that! I'm in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin anyway.

I think the ultimate summer time beer is a Kolsch. It is crisp, clean, and flavorful. I also can go with an IPA.

I'll drink to that. A good Kolsch works well for me. I'd suggest a Steamworks Colorado Kolsch - one of my favs. Another is Summer Fling - a new brew from Fort Collins Brewery - a Blonde/Kolsch mix.

This summer, it's all about the hefeweizens. Although it's a non-traditional version of a hefe, I am a fan of Long Trail's Hefeweizen.

Allagash White works for every summer, so that's my ultimate summertime beer.

On a hot summer day, the only thing I can think of that I would reach for over a traditional Bavarian hefe (Sprecher's version is nice, so is Two Brothers' Ebel Weiss) is a Bell's Oberon. What a fantastic beer.

I have to admit... after a long ride in Moab or a simple lawn mowing... ice cold "none of that mamby bamby let's get the right temperature", Spaten Pils. Refreshing and much better than water or any of the imitating products.

Recently I did a bit of a tasting of Mexican lawn mower beers... to my surprise, in a field of DosEquis, Tecate, Corona, and Pacifica, I thought that Sol, in a clear bottle, was the best. No Modela available, but the "Negra" product is darker than I might like for super quick refreshment, 6 oz at a swallow. Maybe my taste was upset--and I definitely would not put these products against Spaten... but... if nothing else was around. Sol.

Single Beer(s)---Bell's Oberon or Troeg's Sunshine Pils

Single Style(s)--Berliner Weiss or Saison (such a wide open style though)

Normally I like a nice Pale Ale such as: Sierra Nevada, Bell's, Dale's, A good Lager such as: Brooklyn, or a hoppier Pils such as: Victory Prima Pils, Troegs Sunshine Pils. Lately, I've gotten into Saisons though, such as Clipper City's Red Sky at Night

Can't possibly narrow it down to ONE beer. A style... piece of cake: American Wheats /German Hefes. All day everyday.
