The Aleuminati-the not so secret society of better beer drinkers

C'mon, admit it ... you probably do! A beer that definitely does not qualify as a high-end craft-brewed beer by any stretch, but you just can't leave it behind ... maybe it's a beer you enjoyed in your college days, maybe it's one of those faux-craft beers from A-B?

What beer(s) do you still enjoy that you can find at the corner gas station?

Maybe you are a hardcore beer snob and never touch anything that could possibly contain an adjunct, but I'd wager you do ... what is your guilty pleasure?

Share yours and I'll share mine ... ...

Would New Belgium Trippel fall into this category? It is available at Safeway.

Wow ... New Belgium at Safeway, huh? You have to understand, better beer at a grocery ... much less any beer at a grocery ... is a foreign concept here in the beer wasteland of So. Illinois! If New Belgium's Trippel is your "guilty pleasure" beer, I'm jealous. :)

Hmmm.... every once in a while there's nothing like a Corona. Or Pacifico if it's available instead. Oddly enough, Corona on tap in Mexico is RANK.

I don't generally enjoy the Modelo beers and there's not enough lime in the world to make me enjoy them, BUT I have been known to throw back a Negra Modelo from time to time.

Okay, in the summertime with a grilled burger or brat, I actually enjoy the "king of Beers" on a rare occasion. Usually I'll do something like a Bell's Oberon or Two Hearted, but once in a while an American macro lager is actually ... dare I say it ... refreshing.

Do I lose my Aleuminati credentials now?

I'm just thinking of something I can get without having to wait in line, fly back on an airplane, make an all day trip for. Most grocery stores in the Tacoma area have Deschutes (Mirror Pond, Back Butte), Full Sail (Amber) or New Belgium.

Nice. Most stores here have Bud and Bud Light, Miller and Miller Lite ...oh, and if you're lucky PBR.

Haha.

Seriously though, that's about it for the most part with the exception of a few of the A-B/InBev-affiliated beers you can occasionally find. The one redeeming factor is the moderately good availability of Schlafly beers ... Boulevard is also making some inroads into the market.

You guys in less beer restrictive areas of the country don't realize how nice you have it! Drink a good one for me!

I think my guilty pleasures would be Blue Moon, Killian's or Dos Equis.

I gotta go with Corona. When the weather warms up and the sun is a shinin you just know when its time for a Corona. Last year a good friend of mine called me up and informed me he had just had his first Corona of the year, I had just had my first one two days previous. Lime, you bet its not a Rona without one, actually its pretty crappy without one.

I rather enjoy all the CLASSIC beers.

PBR
Old Style
Strohs
Hamms
Lone Star
Schlitz

and for $1.50 at the bars that sell it, it's a nice change of pace from a "good" beer.

I remember the beers I first "grew up" with as a teenager when we'd go sneaking out to a remote location and drink beer. The stuff we drank back then was: Lowenbrau, Heineken's and Miller. If I have to drink commercial swill it's occasionally one of these - preferably Lowenbrau. Remember their jingle from way back?

Here's to good friends,
tonight is kinda special.
The beer we'll pour
must say something more somehow,
so tonight, tonight - let it be Lowenbrau

I have vivid memories of the Hamm's song ... and the bear.

Schlitz Malt Liquor or a 40oz of Old English- remnants of a time when I was... lets just say not so nice to people.
When I have one of those "If I didn't have kids, I would kill someone" days I stop into a Dirt Cheap grab a 40 and a Smoke (in this mood a Black and Mild) and reminisce of a time when I could get away with it.
Mickey's when I want to cut loose.
